Painting and graphics. Large retrospective from Tate Britain Gallery collections. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) was a true English man. He graduated from Royal Academy (London); became an academician under thirty years old, and then - a professor of academic classes. He drank his tea as scheduled, acted like a true gentleman with ladies, made "sentimental" journeys to Wales and Europe, painted watercolour romantic landscapes and took his painter's case everywhere. Turner drew from life, and hardly felt an English romantic landscape painter like Constable but a modernist and visionary like Kandinsky. His late pictures are pure avant-garde, actual abstraction. William Turner bequeathed his pictures to Britain, where they have been always and never travelled. Naturally there are no Turner’s works in Russian collections, so this exhibition in Pushkin Fine Arts Museum is our first and only chance to see his canvases. "Another Mythology" follows up the conceptual exhibition projects of the National Centre of Contemporary Art. The project examines one of the most brilliant and fascinating trends in contemporary art - hankering of an artist for creating myth, for working with stable themes and characters. Moscow Museum of Modern Art hosts “Etude to Art Object”, a large-scale experimental display focused on works by Russian artists from the museum’s permanent collection. The display consists of more than three hundred works: from traditional painting, graphics, sculpture and photography to kinetic objects and video installations. Among the artists are: AES+F, Alexander Archipenko, Konstantin Batynkov, Leonid Borisov, Pavel Chistyakov, Semyon Faibisovich, Andrey Goncharov, Eduard Gorokhovsky, Andrey Grositsky, Francisco Infante, Vyacheslav Koleychuk, Valery Koshlyakov, Oleg Kulik, Mikhail Larionov, Igor Makarevich, Kazimir Malevich, Tatyana Nazarenko, Timur Novikov, Viktor Pivovarov, George Pousenkoff, Leonid Purygin, Oskar Rabin, Aidan Salakhova, Vasili Shukhaev, Sergey Shutov, Igor Snegur, Vinogradov and Dubosarsky, Dmitry Zhilinsky, and many others. The design of the display was created by Boris Bernaskoni, one of the most promising young architects in Moscow, praised for his singular approach to exhibition architecture. His stylish and purist solution helps to clarify the structure of the project and guides the visitor on the way from “Etude to Art Object”.

| Jaume Plensa: Silent Music (Spain) |

 Born in Barcelona in 1955, the Catalan artist has an international reputation for major public art projects. His outdoor work can be seen in locations including the US, Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Korea and the UK, as well as in his home country. Plensa integrates a wide variety of materials such as iron, glass, bronze and resin to take best advantage of the more intangible qualities of light and sound as well as the ideas that arise from spoken or written texts. His main preoccupation are human the body and the way we perceive our world from the purely sensory to more complicated thoughts, gestures, and expressions. Jaume Plens dropped in on architectural scene in the 1990s getting his start producing human-body bronze and stone sculptures. Then he got bored with it and felt himself a kind of surrealist, a little bit conceptualist and a sort of moralist and immersed into what is exhibited now at Diehl+Gllery One.

| Mona Breede: Photography (Germany) |

 Mona Breede was born in Kiel (Germany) in 1968, studied photography in Hamburg and Karlsruhe. After living for some time in Chicago, in 2007 Breede moved to Asia and Russia and came back with new series of photographs: Shanghai, Moscow and St-Petersburg. These works of the last years will be for the first time exhibited in Russia: in Moscow Museum of Modern Art and in State Center of Photography in St-Petersburg. Now Mona Breede mostly takes interest in places and people and their relations. She says: “I want my photographs to touch those who see them. And I’d like the audience to come back again and again and every time feel something new, discovering the unknown. This kind of aim defines process of creating photographs”.

Rena Effendi is a young but very famous photographer from Baku. In 2004, Effendi was awarded with the International fund of documentary photography prize - Fifty Crows - and in 2006 she received grant of the Getty Images fund and Giacomelli award in Italy. Rena’s new project exhibited at Photographer.ru is comprised of the portraits of Ferganskaya Dolina citizens shot against the tawdry background of the wedding palaces’ interiors (one portrait shows a village woman with a gun). The project is called “House of Happiness” with no sarcasm at all: the above-mentioned woman in the picture owns a tiger in the park, and she can't manage without a gun.

| Tair Salakhov: Retrospective |

 Ekaterina Cultural Fund hosts Tair Salakhov`s first retrospective exhibition. Tair Teimurovich Salakhov is an important proponent of Russian art, a pioneer of the «Grim style», an academician, a maitre. The art itself was not the only concern for Salakhov. Being one of the leaders of the USSR's art community organization, the Artists' Union, he has helped a lot of his colleagues, supporting young artists and students of the Surikov Institute for the arts, sometimes providing legal cover-ups for dissident non-conformist artists. Salakhov has contributed to organizing, in late 1980s and early 1990s, solo shows of works by Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Gunther Uecker, Francis Bacon, Jean Tingely, Giorgio Morandi, Iannis Kounellis, Gilbert & George. This retrospective comes alongside Salakhov's 80th anniversary. It shows his most famous works and also provides a rare chance to look at the paintings in the Azerbaidzhan Art Gallery, that have almost never been exhibited in Russia and are known primarily through catalogs and art books.

| Yuri Rost: Group Portrait |

Yuri Rost is an open-hearted man with all his life being in full view. He was born in 1939 in Kiev, graduated there from the Sports Institute, wore tight trousers, read self-published books (samizdat) and listened to jazz. Then he moved to Petersburg and entered department of journalism. Yuri is the one who invented a new “paper parable” genre. He was a special correspondent for Komsomolskaya Pravda and a photo correspondent for the weekly Literature Paper. Rost photographed Ranevskaya, Freindlikh, Ulanova, academician Likhachev and academician Sakharov. He made a portrait of Henri Cartier-Bresson and was invited for his Paris exhibition. Last year Rost’s book “Group Portrait against the Background of the Century” was published and now Manezh Exhibition Hall hosts his exhibition of the same name. All the portraits are shot against the background of libraries, writing tables and bare walls; the landscapes featuring small people are all black-and-white, all straightforward and frank.
