I read Siberian light too. My wifes visit to the doctor in Gomel Belarus was certainly different than what Carbos wife had. She was in a room with one other patient who had a bad case of ulcers I guess, during visitor hours I was allowed in and the place though spartan was sanitary and the nurses polite and helpful. She was only there for 4 days and paid a small fee for it and had to pay out of pocket for some pain meds but that was it. The doctor was very professional but his bedside manner was a little strict for me, somewhat of a dictator. My wife was ready to leave on the second day but he would have none of it, he was the boss like it or not. There was no choice.

Carbos story is enough to make one sick, if that is the state of medicare there then Russia is not a place to get sick in. How pathetic.

Same mindset for floor nurses :-) The universities must have a required med school course on " Control-Freak Fascism 101".

I saw about half an hour ago. I was checking the stats for my blog, and noticed that yesterday I had almost twice my previous record for visits, and then I realised they were all from Siberian Light.

Woooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooo.

I promise it won't change me. I'd just like to thank my agent, my wonderful mother...

Seriously, though, how frickin good is that? I mean, Siberian Light is a brilliant blog, and was even nominated as Best European Blog in the 2008 Weblog Awards.

I ran into the room and made Ms. Carbo go onto the internet and read just how great her boyfriend was.

I feel all giddy.

I know. I'm so top heavy now that I can hardly keep from capsizing.

Anyway, I posted about it on the blog, too.

Hey good for you!

Did you ever ask anyone how much money these doctors and nurses made per month?

I don't want to start something in this thread but just if you didn't think of it maybe you should have.

And as far as the dentist story goes you could of just got your girl to the German Dental Center the next day. This is Moscow not the north pole. Some could say you failed her badly. I guess you did write about you helplessness but your girl must not be from Moscow or she has no friends.

My wife had a bad tooth ache and she was at the dentist on the first morning I didn't care about how much it would cost I just took her to the first dentist that would see her and when he said he had to pull the tooth she was very upset so I took her to the German Dental Center and $600 later she still had her tooth. Please believe me that you most likely have a lot more than I do, but that was not a question when my wife was in pain the only thing on my mind was how to stop it as fast as I could and I did what ever it took.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy your comments on this forum and think you have much of value to add here but maybe you should look a little deeper into the reasons why things are the way they are here and not just compare Russia to other places. I don't think that's fair.

Sorry if I rained on your parade, I know how it is to get recognition being a musican it feels pretty good. Enjoy because later your under pressure to keep to a level that expected of you and to even improve, that's the hard part.

So keep up the good work!

Thanks, Willi. Appreciate the praise.

On the tooth thing, basically the way it happened was this: Ms Carbo got the tooth ache, and told me it had happened before and usually lasted five days. Over the course of two days, though, it got worse and worse. She then called her friends who all recommended the same dentist, and we booked an appoointment and went.

It was really a very nice set up there, and cheap, too. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I hope that explains things better.

She's from Moscow, but she just thought it would be like previous times when the wisdom tooth had hurt, but not that much, and it was over in a few days. Then it developed into something much worse.
