Hi
Do anyone know of an affordable acommodation for a friend of mine for a couple of nights in the middle of march in the area from Arbat to Patriarchski Prudy?

It's pretty difficult to find affordable accomodation in the centre of Moscow. You'd better try looking for something on the outskirts. Orekhovo metro station, for instance. It only takes you 30 minutes to reach Arbat from there. There's a hotel (Tsaritsyno) and a hostel (Orekhovo) there. Both are located right near the metro station, very close to a park.

There are several hostels in the center if your friend doesn't mind sharing the room. There can be 1-bed rooms as well, but will be more expensive.

Depending on your budget then you may want to look at serviced apartments as well.

I stayed a couple of nights at Yellow Blue Bus hostel for about $25 a night in a shared room - not ideal - but it was cheap and the location was great!! (right by Mayakovskaya Metro...)

Do you need precisely this area? Because if not - I can recommend "Cosmos hotel" which is not very far from the city center.
