19:00 Beatrice et Benedict
Opera in two acts to music by Hector Berlioz. Libretto by composer after “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare. Music Director: Julien Salemkour. Stage Director: Alexander Petrov. Set Designer: Simon Pastukh. Sung in French with Russian surtitles. In the Sicilian town of Messina, the citizens are gathered to welcome Don Pedro, prince of Aragon, who is about to return from a successful military campaign. Leonato, the governor, arrives with his niece Beatrice and his daughter Hero, who eagerly anticipates the return of her beloved Claudio, Don Pedro’s comrade in arms. When Don Pedro and his troops arrive, the wedding of Hero and Claudio is announced for that evening. Meanwhile, Hero’s cousin Beatrice has a very different kind of reunion with another soldier, Benedict. The pair lose no time in resuming their longstanding ‘merry war’, trading taunts and wisecracks. Somarone, the local music master, arrives with his musicians to rehearse the wedding song he has composed, a ham-handed double fugue.

19:00 Die Zauberflöte
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera in two acts, 195 min. Sung in German. Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder based on Christoph Martin Wieland’s fairy tale Lulu oder die Zauberfl?te. Stage Director: Boris Pokrovsky. Music Director: Vladimir Agronsky. Designer: Viktor Volsky. Costume Designer: Rafael Volsky. Choreographer: Lilia Talankina. Premiered on September 24, 2004. "The Magic Flute" was the last opera Mozart composed: it was premiered on September 30, 1791 - roughly three months before he died. The opera became the most famous and performed in the world. Why do we love “The Magic Flute” so much? Probably because this opera is about the most valuable thing in life – about love? A romantic fairy tale, filled with a deep philosophical sense, has an irresistible magic for the opera stage directors, because, created by Mozart without regard to age restrictions - hardly he thought, 16+ or 6+ will be put on the poster - is clear and sweet for both the child and the adult.

19:00 Rigoletto
Opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. 185 (with two intermissions). Conductors: Evgeny Samoilov, Fabio Mastrangelo. Stage Director: Ralf Langbaka. Performed in Italian with Russian surtitles. The co-project of the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. "A singing hunchback? Why not? I find it quite exciting to make this character ugly and clumsy outside and passionate and full of love inside," wrote Verdi when composing one of his best operas. His masterly score is dynamic and theatrical and has powerful dramatic personalities. The wonderful arias and ensembles sung by the main characters (Rigoletto, the Duke, and Gilda) and amazing memorable melodies have become world opera hits. Rigoletto is a classic example of the Verdi theatre: passionate, tearful, tender and evil, with historical costumes and a romantic environment. The co-project of the Novaya Opera and the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Rigoletto has run on stage more than fifteen years, enjoying unvarying success. In different years this production featured Dmitry Hvorostovsky and Franz Grundheber as Rigoletto and was conducted by Evgeny Kolobov and Antonino Fogliani. The production was awarded the Casta Diva Russian Opera Prize as the "Event of the Year" in 2000.
