Painting, graphics, sculpture, photography, performance, installations. Kandinsky Award 2008 aims to develop Russian modern art, find new interesting projects and artists, define basic tendencies of the artistic process, influence its cultural-aesthetic content, involve new participants and strengthen positions on the world scene. The award takes place for the second time, and this year the exhibition of the nominees moved from WinZavod to the Central House of Artists and took 3,500 square meters. Just like last year, this time everything is exhibited alternately – Siniye Nosy (Blue Noses), Aidan Salakhova, Sergey Shekhovtsov, Sergey Chilikov, Dmitry Tsvetkov – and just like last year it looks a bit absurdly. It represents photographs and prints from the Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation (New York). Portraits, self-portraits, flowers, female and male nudes, statuary, etc. ??“ all works by Mapplethorpe are made in the artist??™s unique manner: the object is focused and pictured in a large-scale, so that the texture of the surface seems to be almost palpable. His style was then largely used in advertising design. Read more |

The aim of the new project by Marat Gellman is to state the existence of another Russia within the geographical borders of the present Russian Federation.
