Opera in four acts to music by Francesco Cilea. Libretto by Arturo Colautti after the play of the same name by Eugene Scribe and Ernest Legouve. Music Director: Artyom Abashev. Stage Director: Evgeny Pisarev. Set Designer: Zinovy Margolin. Presented with one interval. Sung in Italian. Backstage at the Comedie Francaise. Actors prepare for the performance. Their nastiness makes Michonnet complain about the hardships of his life as a director. The Prince and the Abbot turn up, giving rise to gossip and ridicule. The Prince seeks to see the actress Duclos and learns that she has just hastily written a note to someone. Adriana enters dressed to play Roxanne in Racine’s tragedy Bayazet. She is rehearsing her lines. The performance is to start soon. Michonnet is left tete a tete with Adriana and decides to confess his love, but Adriana has something to share with her friend first: her lover, an officer in the army of the Count of Saxony, has returned from war and will come to the show today. Enter Maurizio, the Count himself, disguised as an officer. He swears his love for Adriana, and so does she in return. She gives him a bouquet of violets and rushes to the stage...

Set designers: Tauno Kangro (Estonia), Rostislav Protasov. The Pharaoh’s palace received the news, that Ethiopians would threat to attack Egypt. Radames is willing to lead the forces and win, he hints about it to the High Priest. The Pharaoh’s daughter Amneris is in love with Radames. She guessed about his passion to the slave Aida, when she sees him in a strong excitement. Priests hold the rite of passage to consecrate Radames as the Commander. Amneris is waiting Radames’ returning – he won the Ethiopians. Suspecting Aida is the rival and trying to learn her feelings to Radames, she tells Aida about his death. A wail of despair reveals Aida. Everything is ready for meeting the winners on the square in Thebes. The triumphant appears with the captured Ethiopians, there is Amonasro (the King of Ethiopia, Aida’s father) among them. Trying to avoid suspicion, he impersonates himself as the Commander and tells, that the King of Ethiopia is died in battle...
