Question:

I was writing to a young lady in Russia, but when I met her, her teeth appeared to have a problem. Beneath and around one front tooth, the gum/skin was grey instead of the usual color. What causes this, just a lack of brushing the teeth? Can it be fixed? The lady is only 22.

The tooth most probably has been treated with some russian medication (Formkresol) to seal the root canal after the nerv was taken out. The tooth becomes dark grey and that shines through the thin gum on the front. To place a veneer or even better a crown on such a tooth will change the situation. Just to bleach the tooth -as alternative- would only result in a green yellow color and would not help the gum to change its appearance.
Best regards, VG
