Question:
Hi, I am relocating out to Moscow with my family in August 2009. My workplace will be based in Chekhov [142301], and I plan to drive there daily. We are looking at schools, maybe either BIS [school 4], EIS [Zeleney prospekt] or Int.School of Moscow [121552]...and clearly we need to be south-ish of the centre in all cases. I have RUB 3m to spend p.a. on rent. We need at least a 2-bed (ideally 3-bed) accommodation. What areas do you suggest for these 3 schools [ideally either walking distance, or short metro/bus], and will my daily commute be for more than 1.5hrs each way! Many thanks!
Adrian Cooper
Answer:
Dear Adrian,

Thank you for your recent enquiry!

As you rightly suggested the south of the city could be your best solution and there are several great options for you located within easy reach of your preferred schools. BIS 4 (accepts children from 3 to 11), BIS 3 (ages from 11-18), School 9 (3 to 11). A further possible solution are the English International Schools (east of the city, accepts children from 3 to 18). The International school which is located to the west (accepts children from 2-11), it may be less conveniently located, but could be an option as well.

In terms of location for BIS 4,3,9 the area of Leninsky prospect and Yugo-Zapad (South-West) may be of interest as there are many modern residential buildings with good quality apartments. Also in these areas there some international compounds which could be interesting, for example Syetun or Dubrovka. Both compounds are very popular with families with kids. In general this area is considered to be very good from an ecological point of view, it has very good infrastructure (shopping and fitness centres, restaurants, cafes) and it is very popular with expats.

East of the city is less popular area for expats, there are not so many residential buildings there, however there is a very nice compound there called Kuskovo (sometimes also known as Scandinavian village).

West of the city around Serebryanny Bor is also a very nice area and has a lot of interesting housing options, both in terms of apartments in residential buildings, and in terms of community life within the compound called Serebryanny Bor although this may be less convenient for you in terms of your commute to Chekov.

For your information I have attached some properties for your review. I hope they will provide you with an example of potential options and I would be delighted to offer you a much more comprehensive selection of property details for your information.

If you have any preliminary visits planned, we'd be glad to provide you with an orientation tour (area, housing, schools, medical/shopping/fitness centres, etc.) if this would be helpful for you. Alternatively, we would recommend viewing properties about 2-3 weeks prior to your desired lease commencement.

I do hope this information will be useful and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

IntermarkSavills looks forward to ensuring your happy move to Moscow!

Kind regards,
Tamara Ayoub
