What areas both in town and outside of town are most expat friendly i.e. where do the expats live?

Answer:

Dear Thomas,
The most popular areas in-town for expats are around Patriarshy Ponds and Chistye Prudy. However, due to the high demand, and a shortage of suitable apartments, these areas are being priced out of the range of the average expat. Other areas that we see growing in popularity are Frunzenskaya and Zamoskvorechye. Frunzenskaya in particular is a clean, quiet residential area, well serviced with shops (Azbuka, Ramstor),
restaurants, cinema and a wealth of parks for walking. In general the courtyards are also large and well maintained, and the area is very child-friendly. And it really is only a ten minute drive to the Kremlin. Out of town the two main compounds, Rosinka and Pokrovsky Hills, are still extremely popular, and thus both have a waiting list. We do see a number of people moving into less traditional, from an expat point of view, areas, but again budgets are in the region of 8,000 and above.
