Question:
We are a family with 2 kids aged 15 and 10 considering a move to Moscow late summer. Looks like the older one will be accepted at AAS and the younger one will have to do one year at BIS Rosinka before moving to AAS as well. We are looking for a compound with facilities, like tennis, swimming, fitness etc, so that the kids can do their activities and socializing indepently without us driving them everywhere. I understand from other questions that Rosinka has these facilities. Are there any other compounds that have these as well? I am a bit worried about the commute into the centre. We used to live in Moscow 14 years ago and always used the metro. What is the commute time from Rosinka to closest metro? And what is the commute from Rosinka to AAS? We are already on a waiting list for Rosinka, but what are options for temporary accomodation. Is Moscow Country Club an option?

Dear Marielle,
Thank you very much for your questions. The city will seem like a completely different place then when you lived here 14 years ago!
Rosinka does indeed have all of the facilities that you mention you desire. As you know, there is strong demand and thus a long waiting list to live there. The commute time from Rosinka to the nearest metro (Tushinskaya or Skhodnenskaya) takes on average about 20 minutes and from Rosinka to AAS 30 minutes.
There are a few other compounds located to the northwest besides Rosinka that have quality facilities: The Le Meridian Moscow Country Club (www.lemeridien-mcc.com) is located 15 kilometers from the MKAD in the Nakhabino area and has hotel rooms for temporary accommodation needs. They offer options for lease through affiliate GlavUpDK, but these units are rarely available. Pokrovsky Hills (PH) doesn't have as many facilities but does have security and enough lawn space for outdoor activities. However, it also is very popular and has a long waiting list. Porovkoye-Glebovo (on Beregovaya Street) is a secure complex just across the street from PH. It also has a lot of green space and there are currently several available apartments.
You may want to consider renting a house in the Mashkinskie Holmy, Rozhdestveno, Kurkino, and Novogorsk areas (located outside the MKAD to the north-west), which are relatively close to the British International School (BIS) # 8. If you're ten year old son would consider one of the other British Schools (#2 or #7), then another compound called Serebryany Bor could have potential. It is a very prestigious, secure settlement located in a quiet forest area straight west of Moscow. This community has a number of new houses currently under construction which can be reserved for move-in Fall 08'.
I hope this information is helpful, please don't hesitate to ask any more questions. All the best,
