Question:
I've had my multiple entry visa for three months now. During these three months I was registered at a hotel. Now that I need a new one, the hotel tells me that they will only register me if I actually live there...
The agency who issued the letter tells me that because the hotel registered me before, they won't help me anymore.
What do I do now? Please help!

Answer:
Dear Tyler,
According to the Russian law "On legal status of foreigners in Russian Federation" and Official Statement ¹ 335 from 09/06/2003, foreign visitors should be registered in Russian Federation within 3 working days after their arrival. The main responsible organization for registration procedure is the inviting company. If You were registered in the hotel for the first 3 months of Your visa, it only means that You hadn't broken any registration rules, so the company that issued a multiple-entry invitation must prolong registration in any case.
The only thing You should pay attention, is the fact, the at present time, Passport and Visa Services department (PVU) can register You for 6 months only (starting from the date of Your entering Russia). Then You will have to prolong the registration in any case. Usual registration procedure requires definite documents for registration, as: passport and visa, migration card (in Your case with the stamp from the hotel where You were registered before) and notarized letter from Your landlord.
So if you can get this law brochure and go with it to your inviting company and insist that it is their responsibility.
For the future we can suggest you to place your visa requests to more reliable companies which will not refuse to make a registration.
